Dear Baroness Ashton, I write to you once again, having read the statement made by your spokesperson, Ms. Maja Kocijancic, as follows:
> The EU requests the government of Israel to do all it can to preserve the health of Mr Adnan and handle this case while abiding by all legal obligations under international law. The EU reiterates its longstanding concern about the extensive use by Israel of administrative detention without formal charge. Such a procedure should be used only in exceptional circumstances, and without prejudice to the rights of detainees under international and national laws, in particular their right to be informed about the charges underlying any detention and their right to a fair trial. (quoted here: http://electronicintifada.net/blogs/david/few-weasel-words-eu-adnan-nears-death) This is absolutely insufficient. Mr. Adnan may die any minute now, and he has not been charged with any crime.
It is your moral and legal obligation to call upon the Israeli government to release him immediately, or indict him with an internationally recognized crime, corroborated with sufficient evidence with which to try him in a court of law. There is simply no way around it. Sincerely, Uri Horesh
