Solidarity from Ireland

Dear Khader,

What do you say to a man who is giving more then you could ever imagine yourself giving? All I think I can offer is the knowledge that your fight is not in vain. The history of our countries are different, but the same. I know your stories,I hear them from all around the world, I hear them from my mother. She tells me stories with tears in her eyes. Even now I cry for my grandfather and what he lived through as a child. But here's the hope I offer for you. My family fought, they hurt, they struggled. Life was tough, for generations. And not just war, but the struggle when you're not free, when you are not allowed to live as full human beings. But a hundred years ago my family dreamt that I would be free. And I am. Right now I am sitting in a warm room, with enough to live, and to live with dignity. I am studying for a masters degree. I can travel the world if I want. I can read all the books I want. I can speak my language. Things may change for the worse but I know I could overcome that. Their strength is in my blood. I feel them at my shoulder every time I go out and try to challenge something I think is wrong, when I try to stand up for others. I want you to know that your strength will pass on. Your daughters will know it and live it. Your grandchildren and great-children will know it. Palestine knows it and will feel it for generations. Go raibh maith agat, a chara. Cóimead do chroí. Thank you, friend. keep your heart.

Mise le Meas,

Kate
