thinking of you

Dear Um Abdurahman, dear Khader,

I am deeply saddened yet absolutely unsurprised by Israels inhuman behaviour towards you.I admire your strength, your willpower and steadfastness. In this unequal conflict israel has, inevitably, the upper hand.
But you possess what Israel will never be able to claim for itself: morality, humanity and dignity.

Thinking of you and your children,

Dear Khader Adnan,

My emotions are mixed. I am in awe of your courage and determination, and deeply saddened that your human rights are being violated to such a degree, that you have no choice but to try and force the Israeli authorities to treat you properly by risking your life.

I sincerely hope, with all my heart, that you will live to enjoy your liberty. Whatever the outcome, Know that you will never be forgotten, and that your courage and sacrifice will live on as an example to the rest of us.

The rising of the sun this morning has brought another day. With that, it has brought with it many prayers and fondest thoughts to Khader Adnan, his wife Randa, daughters and family. I have, since the news of Adnan's hunger strike commenced, been sending regular e-mails to the Israeli Embassy in South Africa in support of Adnan and with hope of his release. I fumble for words to express my support to a man who is not just fighting a cause for justice for himself, but rather in behalf of all Palestinian people. A hero you are Khader, a role model and a true fighter! Your steadfastness is captivating, the courage you display is inspiring to thousands across the world!

In less than an hour from now, the Jumuah prayer will commence in my hometown, I raise my hands Doaa and shed many tears pleading to my Rabb to be with you and grant you and your family freedom.

Allah does not burden a person with more than he can handle. I pray, my family prays and the world prays for our dear Brother Sheikh Khader Adnan. Prayers and Love.

To my dear brother Khader,

Through your immense courage and utter selflessness, for the sake of your people - you have chosen:

  • Hunger above food,
  • Dignity above humiliation,
  • Honour above capitulation,
  • Freedom above surrender,
  • Resistance above occupation!

May God's mercy be with you and may He grant victory to your people. Amen.

Your Resistance, You're Resistance

Dear Khader Adnan & his respected family.

I have been wanting to write something about you & to you for days now, but I have been scared, worried & overcome by anger.
Every time I started to write, I would scribble down a few words & then get lost in my own thoughts, I can't delay this any further.

It would be stupid to claim that I can describe how much respect I have for you, how much love, how much pride I feel knowing what you are doing & how resilient you are, you have taken Palestinian resistance to new heights, you have shattered stereotypes that Palestinians only resist with guns & Molotov cocktails.

Through your hunger-strike, you have expressed the thoughts of every Palestinian, through the refusal to eat, you have expressed your rejection of the Zionist state, through your willpower, you have shown that the human body is only as powerful as the mind that lies within it & your mind is strong, so strong that you brave death with no fear because life without dignity is worthless.

Everyday I tell people about you, I tell them that I'm a proud Palestinian for many reasons & you are one of them, I tell them to reach out & help, I tell them that through your hunger-strike you have highlighted Israeli apartheid, you are the hungry freedom fighter we all long to become.

Your resistance has made you the resistance.

To your family I say, that you are blessed, you are what drives this man & in you he finds strength.
To your family I say, hold your head up high, remain strong & proud.
To your family I say, we are all with you, the Palestinian struggle doesn't forget & it honors those who stand by it.
To your family I say, I love you & I stand with you as one, through these 60+ days, you have become the family of all Palestinians, in the lands of Palestine & across the globe in the diaspora.

We all stand in-solidarity with Khader Adnan.
Khader Adnan is a hero.
Khader Adnan is RESISTANCE & refusal to live without dignity.

Love & Solidarity.
