Thoughts and du'a from Malaysia

To Khader, Randa, Ma'ali, Bisan and family,

You are constantly in our thoughts and du'a.
We pray that you, Khader, will be able to go back home and be reunited with your family.
But if that is not what Allah has ordained, we pray that you will attain jannatul-firdaus and be placed among the prophets and shuhada.
Only Allah can reward and avenge what you and the Palestinian people have had to go through.

"We shall set up scales of justice for the Day of Judgment, so that not a soul will be dealt with unjustly in the least, and if there be (no more than) the weight of a mustard seed, We will bring it (to account): and enough are We to take account." [21:47]

May Allah be your protector and comfort always...
We will continue to support the struggle of the Palestinians, and insyaAllah we will overcome.

I am sorry to hear that its come to this. When I was a kid the Irish activist Bobby Sands underwent a hunger strike to raise awareness for the Irish cause, and before he was done people all over the world had to confront what the British were doing in Northern Ireland. I will mourn Khader’s passing, and his sacrifice. Perhaps because he’s done this, it will help to open some eyes or to steel the limbs and the spirits of those who continue to work for justice and dignity. Perhaps those eyes won’t open, but Israel should take note. This man’s sacrifice is another sign that the days of the ethnocratic state are over, and the time has come to forswear the treatment of Palestinians as a subjugated people who can be manipulated and sacrificed. The longer the leadership in that country refuses to embrace human dignity and a new way of moving towards the future, the longer it will be mired in the past. Khader’s name will haunt them for all the days and weeks and months and years of occupation and de-humanization, and Israel and its government will pay a steeper and steeper price in the court of public opinion. If this is not a turning point, it points to one down the road, and soon.

My heart goes out to the family of Khader Adnan. Peace be upon you all.

Khader Adnan and his family.

I pray particularly for your family who must be preparing for the loss of their father, husband and son. I hope that that they feel God's strength and reassurance throughout. I am amazed at your bravery and resilience so far, not just in this final act, but in living through such awful, demeaning and demoralising circumstances. I hope that someday your struggles will be overcome and that we live in a world where all nationalities, people and beliefs are given the respect and freedoms that they are entitled to. God bless to you and all of yours, Sarah. (from England)

Prayers for your release and an end to administrative detention

Dear Khader,

I keep a candle burning for you, your family, and for all those who suffer the pain and humiliation that arises from Occupation. Your courageous refusal to submit to the unjust policy of being held without charge known as ‘administrative detention’ is a wake up call for the world. You and your family’s sacrifice born from the refusal to submit to Occupation motivates all of us to struggle even harder for the end of an era of outrage. There are no words to express the deep sorrow I feel over your unjust treatment and the profound injustice of the past sixty years. I pray for your release and the release of the Palestinian people from the injustice of Occupation.

Dear Khader and family:

Throughout history the most unselfish among us put their lives so astonishingly, so willingly on the line to remind us that human decency is worth aiming for, despite the cynicism, laziness, fear and acquiescence to turning money and militarism into our gods.  So so many of us are too trapped by the cultural norms which perpetuate injustice.  But the most dedicated liberators from our collective trance who refuse to be seduced by the delusions of material power and security by force may not experience wholly satisfying 'fruition' when performing their selfless acts, but their examples do inch us all incrementally closer to a more compassionate, more decent and just existence upon this miraculous planet.  They break our hearts and open them to more than was possible before when they were closed off to the suffering of others.  They reduce our daily cowardice and complicity and increase our primordial confidence in our unity and in the brotherhood and sisterhood of humankind.

Sometimes enough of a tipping point is reached by a hunger strike or other nonviolent methods in going up against enormous wrongs such as those perpetrated against the Palestinian people to actually shift things in the favor of the heart-wisdom of humanity.  This is of course my hope and the hope of any of us who cannot abide the genocide, the apartheid or cruelty of such oppression of our fellow human beings.  We must search in our hearts for the courage and insight and creativity to act ourselves out of inspiration when a brother is so very dedicated to rousing the truth in our spirits, that we are all one... we are all Khader.

It saddens me that a good man must make the greatest sacrifice to continue to struggle for a Free Palestine, where Palestinians are afforded the same human rights as human beings throughout the world.

Our thoughts are with you and we will not forget your name, Khader Adnan

I am praying for your safe return from this

Dear Khader & Family,

Israel’s occupation of Palestine and the suffering, privations, humiliation and injustice that Israel inflicts on Palestinians is the most long lasting and abhorrent injustice of contemporary history. It is happening before the world’s eyes and the fact that nothing is done to bring about justice to the Palestinians is heartbreaking, revolting, disgusting….

You are a strong, principled and noble person who is willing to sacrifice yourself for of what is right and fair. Your and your family’s suffering must be beyond any anything that words can express but your sacrifice will not be in vain. I wish you will be freed. I wish I will live to see a free Palestine. My thoughts are with you, your family and Palestine.

Letter for Adnan

Dear Adnan,

I know that the clock is ticking and with every passing hour, your need for food to sustain your life grows ever more crucial. Dear Adnan, I do not want you to be yet another martyr, leaving your wife and family alone. You are making a significant statement, but the Israeli's won't be moved by your death. You are just one more in a sea of souls, whose lives have been forfeited on the altar of oppression and hopelessness.

The fight will continue with or without you. But with you, our side is stronger, our voices louder, our determination to achieve justice more unbreakable.

Please take sustenance and live to help achieve the goals so many dedicate their lives to. Let them take not one more life.

You already have my admiration; let me not have to grieve your death.
